Next to join the Random Mods section is Phantasy Star Portable 2 ∞, some may be familiar with Phantasy Star Portable and Portable 2 which received English releases, however 2 infinity never did. Personally I really like this game and it’s a shame no patch has been released so I decided to take a look.

DETAILS Now some details, there are 2 main files: file.fpb an archive storing over 10,000 files -however each file is an archive in itself -total files number over 150,000 -each file encrypted media.fpb -an encrpyted .pgd file is used to store 13072 more files -again there are archives -total files number around 64,000 multiple files make up the cutscenes -face_list.bin -message_J.bin – the text itself -script.bin Approx 2300 of the ~215,000 files are *_J.bin files which contain text, the rest are for scripting, maps, models, textures, animation, etc. There’s at least 3 different types of encryption at work and compression to deal with, which is challenging to a patch attempt. Thankfully VWF is included and luckily there’s support for unencrypted .pgd
